The Kokokulunggur people lived on their traditional lands. These lands covered about 777 square kilometers (300 square miles). This area included places like Port Douglas and Mossman. It stretched north to Daintree. Inland, their country reached towards Mount Carbine.
First Meetings and Challenges
In 1770, Captain James Cook sailed past the Kokokulunggur lands. Later, his ship was damaged near Cooktown. After European settlers arrived, there were some disagreements. These happened between the Kokokulunggur people and early farmers.
Other Names for the Kokokulunggur
Sometimes, people used different names for the Kokokulunggur. These names include:
- Koko-yalung.
- Ngarlkajee. This was a name given by the Wakara group.
