Meet His Musical Family
Kumar Bose grew up in Kolkata, India, in a family full of musicians. His father, Biswanath Bose, was also a tabla player. He gave Kumar his very first lessons in rhythm.
His mother, Vidushi Bharati Bose, played the sitar, a string instrument. She was a student of famous musicians like Dabir Khan and Ali Akbar Khan. Bharati won many awards for her sitar playing. She helped Kumar learn the basics of classical music. She also guided him to become a professional tabla player.
Kumar's brothers are also musical. His brother Acharya Jayanta Bose is a well-known composer, lyricist, and singer. He also plays the harmonium. His other brother, Debojyoti Bose, plays the sarod, another string instrument, and directs music.

His Teachers
Kumar Bose's first teacher was his own father. After his father passed away, he continued his learning with the legendary tabla master, Kishan Maharaj (1923–2008).

Kumar Bose gave his very first public performance when he was only 4 years old! By the time he was 14, he was already performing in other countries. Since then, he has played in almost all the major music halls around the world.
He has performed at famous places like the Royal Albert Hall in London. He also played at the Barbican Centre in London and the Kremlin in Moscow. In New York, he performed at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and Carnegie Hall. He has also played in many different places across India. In 2019, Kumar Bose also performed in Canada at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto.
Special Achievements
- In 2007, Kumar Bose received the Sangeet Natak Akademi award. This is a very important award in India. It recognizes his amazing contributions to music.
