Kumaso Province facts for kids
Kumaso Province (熊曽国, Kumaso-no kuni) was a very old area in Japan. It wasn't a "province" in the same way we think of them today, but more like a region or a group of people. This area was located on the island of Kyushu, in what is now Miyazaki Prefecture.

History of Kumaso
The history of Kumaso is mostly known through ancient Japanese stories and legends. It existed long before Japan became a unified country with clear provinces like it has today.
Kumaso in Ancient Tales
Kumaso is famous because it appears in the tales of Yamato Takeru. He was a legendary hero and prince from ancient Japan. These stories are written in the Kojiki, which is one of Japan's oldest books. The Kojiki tells about myths, legends, and the early history of Japan.
In these legends, Yamato Takeru was sent by the Emperor to defeat the Kumaso people. They were seen as a strong group who didn't follow the Emperor's rule. Yamato Takeru used clever tricks and bravery to overcome them. One famous story tells how he disguised himself as a maid to get close to the Kumaso leaders.
Before Modern Japan
The time of Kumaso was before the Taihō Code was created. The Taihō Code was a set of laws established in the early 8th century (around the year 701). These laws helped to organize Japan into a more structured government with official provinces. Since Kumaso existed before these laws, it shows how ancient and different this region was from later Japanese provinces.
