Kumud Chandra Hazarika (born July 24, 1952), known as Ranju Hazarika, is a famous Indian writer. He has written over 750 books in the Assamese language over the past 40 years. His books cover many exciting topics like thrillers, horror, science fiction, and adventure. He is also very popular for his children's books. Many people in Assam love his stories.

Ranju Hazarika's Life Story
Growing Up and First Stories
Ranju Hazarika was born in a place called Sonitpur in Assam, India. He grew up in the Monabari Tea Estate. From a young age, he loved reading and writing. He wrote short stories and poems that were printed in local newspapers. When he was just fifteen, he finished writing his first novel, Bahurupi. This was right after his Class 10 Board Exams!
Starting His Writing Journey
While studying, Ranju Hazarika worked as an accountant at a tea estate. He also worked in other places for about ten years. During this time, he used his free moments to write. His first novel, Bahurupi, was published in 1973.
He wrote many other novels like Klanta Surjyar Rashmi and Eta Dip Satta Kabar. At first, he didn't plan to publish them. He kept all his stories in a tea box, which he jokingly called his "Dustbin of Stories."
Working as an Editor
In 1982, Ranju Hazarika became the editor of an Assamese magazine called Trishool. Later, in 1984, he moved to Guwahati and joined a new magazine, Sangket, as an editor. He even started his own magazine for kids called "Kon Kon", but it didn't last long. After some years, he worked as an editor for other popular magazines like Hiya and Taal.

In his autobiographies, Ranju Hazarika shares that he has experienced some strange, unexplained things in his life. These experiences inspired him to write his first horror story, "Rahashyamayee Haat" (Mysterious Hand). This story was published in Bismoi. Later, he wrote his first horror novel, Sesh Rajanigandham, in 1983.
How He Researches His Stories
Before writing a novel, Ranju Hazarika likes to do a lot of research about the places and details in his stories. For example, in his novel Mrityur Xital Porox (Cold Touch of Death), he described the Great Himalayas so well that mountaineers who had been there said his description was exactly right! It's amazing because Ranju Hazarika has never visited many of the foreign places he writes about, but he makes them sound so real.
