Ranju Hazarika is the pen name of Kumud Chandra Hazarika (born July 24, 1952), a famous Indian writer from Assam. For over forty years, he has written more than 750 books in the Assamese language. He is known for writing exciting stories in many styles, including thrillers, horror, science fiction, and adventure.

Biography
Early Life and First Book
Ranju Hazarika was born in Sonitpur, Assam, and grew up on the Monabari Tea Estate. From a young age, he loved literature and began writing short stories and poems for local newspapers. When he was only fifteen, right after his Class 10 exams, he wrote his first full novel, Bahurupi.
While studying, Hazarika also worked as an accountant. He later worked in different tea estates. During his free time, he wrote many of his famous novels, like Klanta Surjyar Rashmi, Mayajaal, and Uttar Phalguni. At first, he didn't plan to publish them. He kept all his handwritten stories in a large tea box he called his "Dustbin of Stories & Novels." His first novel, Bahurupi, was finally published in 1973.
Career as a Writer and Editor
In 1982, Hazarika became the editor of an Assamese magazine called Trishool. Two years later, in 1984, he moved to the city of Guwahati. There, he became the editor of another magazine, Sangket. He also started a children's magazine called Kon Kon. Later in his career, he worked as an editor for other popular magazines like Hiya, Taal, and Kareng.

In 1984, Ranju Hazarika married Pranita Hazarika. Together, they have a daughter and a son.

Besides writing novels, Hazarika is also known for his short stories. Thousands of his stories have appeared in Assamese magazines. He has also studied Astrology and Palmistry (the art of reading palms) for over 35 years and has written 11 books on these subjects.

Real-Life Inspiration
In his autobiographies, Hazarika wrote that he has had many strange and paranormal experiences in his own life. These events inspired him to write his first horror story, "Rahashyamayee Haat" (Mysterious Hand). They also led him to write his first horror novel, Sesh Rajanigandham (Last Morning), in 1983.
Research for His Stories
Hazarika does detailed research before writing a novel. For his book Mrityur Xital Porox (Cold Touch of Death), he described the Himalayas so accurately that mountaineers who had been there said it was perfect. Even though he has never traveled to other countries, his descriptions of foreign places in his novels feel very real.
