About Kungari Conservation Park

Kungari Conservation Park is a natural area set aside to protect wildlife. It covers a specific part of land known as section 171. This section is within an area called the Hundred of Bowaka. The park has a road called Woolmit Road to its north. It also shares a border with Mount Benson to the south. Part of a wetland, known as Rushy Swamp, is also inside the park.

Why the Park Was Created

The park was officially created on 10 March 2011. It was made a conservation park under a law called the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972. The main reason for creating it was to protect birds. It provides a safe home for many nesting birds. This includes the Black Swan and birds that travel from China and Japan.

The Name 'Kungari'

The name Kungari was chosen for the park in August 2010. Local Aboriginal people gave permission to use this word. Kungari means Black Swan in their language. This shows the importance of the Black Swan to the area.

Park Size and Protection

As of 2016, Kungari Conservation Park covered an area of 564 hectares (1,390 acres). It is classified as an IUCN Category VI protected area. This means it's a special type of protected area. In these areas, nature is protected, but people can also use natural resources in a careful, sustainable way.
