Kunigunde of Brandenburg-Kulmbach was a princess born in Ansbach in 1524. She passed away on February 27, 1558, in Pforzheim. By birth, she was a princess of Brandenburg-Kulmbach. After she married, she became the Margravine of Baden-Durlach. A Margravine was like a duchess or countess, ruling a special border area called a margraviate.

Her Life Story
Kunigunde was the youngest child of Margrave Casimir of Brandenburg-Kulmbach. Her mother was Susanne, who was the daughter of Duke Albert IV of Bavaria.
Marriage and Faith
On March 10, 1551, Kunigunde married Charles II of Baden-Durlach in Neustadt an der Aisch. Kunigunde had grown up following the Lutheran faith. Her husband, Charles, was part of the Catholic Church. Kunigunde's beliefs influenced Charles. He started to learn more about the Reformation, which was a big change in Christian beliefs in Europe.
Helping Her Brother
In 1554, Kunigunde's brother, Albrecht II Alcibiades, faced a serious problem. The emperor had made a special order against him. Kunigunde welcomed her brother into her home in Pforzheim. He stayed there until he passed away in 1557. Kunigunde herself passed away a year later. Both Kunigunde and Albrecht enjoyed visiting the mineral springs at Bad Liebenzell.
Her Burial Place
Kunigunde died in 1558. She was buried in the St. Michael Church in Pforzheim. You can find a special monument, called a cenotaph, for her in the church's choir area.
A Special Prayer Book
Through Kunigunde, a very special prayer book came into the possession of Baden. It was called the Gebetbuch der Markgräfin von Brandenburg. Narziss Renner had created this beautiful book for Kunigunde's mother in 1520. Today, this important book is kept safe in the Baden State Library.
