Kuniya Daini (大仁 邦彌, Daini Kuniya, born October 12, 1944) is a famous Japanese football player and manager. He played as a defender for the Japan national team. After his playing days, he became a coach and later served as the president of the Japan Football Association. He helped shape Japanese football for many years.

Playing Football: Club Career
Kuniya Daini was born in Kobe on October 12, 1944. He loved football from a young age. After finishing his studies at Keio University, he joined a team called Mitsubishi Motors in 1970. He played as a defender.
Winning Championships
During his time with Mitsubishi Motors, Kuniya Daini helped his team win many important titles. They won the Japan Soccer League championship twice, in 1973 and 1978. They also won the Emperor's Cup three times (in 1971, 1973, and 1978) and the JSL Cup in 1978.
He was a key player for the team. In 1973, he was even chosen as one of the best players in the league, making the "Best Eleven" team. He played 119 games in the league before he retired in 1978.
Playing for Japan: National Team
Kuniya Daini also played for his country. He joined the Japan national team in 1972. His first game was against Khmer (now Cambodia) on July 12, 1972.
Representing His Country
He proudly represented Japan in several big tournaments. He played in the 1974 Asian Games. He also took part in the qualifying matches for the 1974 FIFA World Cup and the 1976 Summer Olympics. He played a total of 44 games for Japan until 1976.
After Playing: Coaching and Leadership
After he stopped playing football, Kuniya Daini continued to be involved in the sport. He became a coach.
Becoming a Coach
In 1984, he became the manager for his old team, Mitsubishi Motors. He helped the team finish in third place for two years in a row (1986-1988). However, in 1989, the team went down to Division 2 for the first time. After this, he decided to step down as manager.
Leading Japanese Football
From 1992, Kuniya Daini started working at the Japan Football Association (JFA). The JFA is the main organization that manages football in Japan. He held important leadership roles there. He was the vice-president from 2006 to 2012. Then, he became the president of the JFA, serving from 2012 to 2016.
Awards and Recognition
Kuniya Daini has received special honors for his contributions to football.
- In 2016, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, which is a high honor in Japan.
- In 2023, he was inducted into the Japan Football Hall of Fame. This means he is recognized as one of the most important people in Japanese football history.
