Kuniya Daini (大仁 邦彌, Daini Kuniya, born October 12, 1944) is a famous Japanese football player and manager. He also served as the president of the Japan Football Association. He was born in Kobe, Japan, on October 12, 1944.

Playing Career: A Strong Defender
Kuniya Daini was a talented football player. He played as a defender. Defenders are players who stop the other team from scoring goals.
Club Success with Mitsubishi Motors
After finishing college at Keio University, Daini joined the Mitsubishi Motors football club in 1970. He played for this club until he retired in 1978.
During his time with Mitsubishi Motors, the team won the Japan Soccer League championship twice. They won in 1973 and again in 1978. They also won the Emperor's Cup three times (1971, 1973, 1978) and the JSL Cup in 1978.
Daini played 119 games in the league. He was recognized as one of the best players in 1973.
Representing Japan: National Team Matches
Kuniya Daini also played for the Japanese national team. His first game for Japan was on July 12, 1972, against Khmer (now Cambodia).
He played in important tournaments like the 1974 Asian Games. He also took part in qualifying matches for the 1974 World Cup and the 1976 Summer Olympics. He played a total of 44 games for Japan before he stopped playing for the national team in 1976.
Coaching and Leadership Roles
After his playing career, Daini continued to contribute to football.
Coaching Mitsubishi Motors
In 1984, Kuniya Daini became the manager for his old club, Mitsubishi Motors. He helped the team finish in 3rd place for two years in a row (1986-1988). However, in 1989, the team faced a tough time and was moved down to Division 2. Daini then left his coaching role.
Leading Japanese Football
From 1992, Daini started working at the Japan Football Association (JFA). The JFA is the organization that manages football in Japan. He held important positions there. He was the vice-president from 2006 to 2012. Then, he became the president of the JFA in 2012 and served until 2016.
Achievements and Recognition
Kuniya Daini has received special honors for his contributions to football.
- He was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, 4th Class, Gold Rays with Rosette, in 2016. This is a high honor in Japan.
- In 2023, he was added to the Japan Football Hall of Fame. This means his achievements in Japanese football are remembered and celebrated.
