Kunkletown's History
The first time Kunkletown was mentioned in a book was in 1845. Back then, it was called Kunklesville. The book said the community was named after its owner and started about 15 years earlier.
In 1845, Kunklesville had seven or eight homes. It also had a tavern (like an inn), a store, a school, a German Reformed Church, and a grist mill. A grist mill is a place where grain is ground into flour. A newspaper from Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania first used the name Kunkletown in December 1846.
