Kurt Darren's Music in Europe
Many of Kurt Darren's songs are in Afrikaans, a language spoken in South Africa. Some of his songs have become famous in Europe because other artists have made their own versions, called cover versions. This is especially true in the Netherlands and Belgium, and sometimes in Germany and Austria.
For example, the Dutch singer Jan Smit covered Kurt's song "Staan Op" and called it "Sta Op". Another Dutch artist, Henk Wijngaard, covered "Meisie Meisie" as "Meissie Meissie". The song "Kaptein Span die Seile" was covered by Bart Kaëll in Dutch as "Kap'tein" and by Mickie Krause in German as "Chantal". This shows how Kurt's music has traveled across the world!
Kurt Darren's Life
Kurt Darren married South African model Dunay Nortjé on January 8, 2011. They have two children, a daughter named Kyrah and a son named Kade.
In July 2013, Kurt was in a serious car accident while driving home after watching a rugby match. He was badly hurt, suffering 11 broken ribs and head injuries. He was taken to the hospital by helicopter and stayed there for several weeks to recover. Many of his planned concerts had to be canceled. After months of healing, Kurt was able to return to performing and even started a tour in the US and Europe in 2014.
