Kurtwood Larson Smith (born July 3, 1943) is an American actor. He is well-known for playing the strict but funny dad, Red Forman, in the TV shows That '70s Show (1998–2006) and That '90s Show (2023–2024).
He also played the bad guy Clarence Boddicker in the movie RoboCop (1987). You might have seen him in many science fiction shows like Star Trek and The X-Files. He even appeared in the action series 24.

Early life
Kurtwood Smith was born on July 3, 1943. His father was a Major in World War II and sadly passed away during the war in Europe.
Smith grew up in California. He went to Canoga Park High School and graduated in 1961. Later, he studied at San Jose State University and Stanford University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Fine Arts degree. For a few years, from 1969 to 1975, he taught theater arts at Cañada College.
Career
Kurtwood Smith started his acting career on stage. He won several awards for his performances in plays like Billy Budd.
In movies, he became famous for his role as Clarence Boddicker in the science fiction film RoboCop. But perhaps his most famous role is Red Forman in the TV show That '70s Show. He played the grumpy but lovable father figure from 1998 to 2006. He later returned as Red Forman in the sequel series, That '90s Show, starting in 2023.
After That '70s Show, Smith continued to work in television. He played Senator Blaine Mayer in the seventh season of 24. He also had a recurring role as a special agent in the series Medium. From 2014 to 2015, he starred as Henry Langston in the ABC drama Resurrection. He was also a regular on the Amazon series Patriot.
Smith has appeared in many other films. He played a strict father in Dead Poets Society (1989). He is also well-known to Star Trek fans. He played the President of the Federation in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. He also played different characters in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager.
Besides acting on screen, Kurtwood Smith is also a talented voice actor. He has lent his voice to characters in video games like Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel. He has also voiced characters in animated TV shows. These include General Galapagos in Terrible Thunderlizards and Gene in Regular Show. He also voiced Bob Johnson on Squirrel Boy. More recently, he voiced Carpenter K. Smith in the stop-motion series Ultra City Smiths.
