Kwame Alexander's Early Basketball Journey
High School Success
Kwame played basketball at Rancho Verde High School in California. In his senior year, he was named to the all-league first-team. He helped his team achieve an impressive 23–6 record. As a junior, his team won the league title with a 22–7 record.
College Basketball Highlights
After high school, Kwame played at Irvine Valley College in 2008–09. He averaged 9.5 points and 8 rebounds per game. He shot the ball very well, making 61.6 percent of his shots. This earned him second-team all-league honors.
Later, he moved to Cal State San Bernardino.
Playing for the Coyotes
In the 2010–11 season, Kwame played in 23 games for the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes. He was a leader in his conference for field goal percentage. He also ranked high in rebounds and blocked shots. He scored 9.8 points per game on average.
Kwame scored 10 or more points in 12 games that season. He had two "double-doubles," which means he got double digits in two stats like points and rebounds. One game, he scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. In another, he had 17 points and 14 rebounds against the defending NCAA champions. He was even named CCAA Player of the Week in February.
Becoming a Top Player
In the 2011–12 season, Kwame played in all 26 games. He became known as one of the best "big men" in Division II basketball. He was great at jumping high and was tough to guard close to the basket. He was named first-team All-CCAA. He averaged 10.6 points and led the CCAA with 7.9 rebounds per game.
During this season, he had five double-doubles. He scored in double figures 14 times and had 10 or more rebounds in nine games. He scored a season-high 22 points against Sonoma State. He also became famous for an amazing dunk against Cal State Stanislaus. This dunk was featured on ESPN's Top 10 Plays of the Day, ranking as the second-best play!
Kwame Alexander's Professional Career
After college, Kwame was not chosen in the 2013 NBA draft. However, he began his professional career overseas.
Playing in Europe and Asia
In 2013, he signed with Rethymno Aegean B.C. in Greece. He later played for HKK Čapljina Lasta in Bosnia. From 2014 to 2015, he played for Enosis Neon Paralimni B.C. in Cyprus. He then moved to Asia to play three games for Changwon LG Sakers in Korea.
He returned to Greece to play for Aries Trikala B.C. in 2015. After that, he joined the NLEX Road Warriors in the Philippine Basketball Association. In 2016, he signed with BC Nokia in Finland, but only played three games before leaving the team. In 2017, he played for Hi-Tech Bangkok City in Thailand.
Playing in Latin America
Kwame has also played for several teams in Latin America. From 2017 to 2018, he played for Club Atlético Goes in Uruguay. In 2018, he joined Trotamundos de Carabobo in Venezuela. He played for the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the Philippines in 2019.
In 2022, Kwame played for Pioneros de Los Mochis in Mexico. He was named an All-Star in the Circuito de Baloncesto de la Costa del Pacífico (CIBACOPA) league. He also won the Slam Dunk Contest that year! He was named an All-Star again in 2023. In 2022, he also played for Taurinos de Aragua in Venezuela. In 2023, he played for Pioneros de Los Mochis again and also for Soles de Santo Domingo Este in the Dominican Republic. Since 2023, he has been playing for Club Trouville in Uruguay.
Personal Life
Kwame Alexander's parents are Kwame and Olufemi Alexander. He studied sociology in college. He is dating Ogom Chijindu, who plays in the women's Legends Football League. She has also appeared on the TV show Basketball Wives.
