Laura Malone Elliot, known as L. M. Elliot, is an American author. She has written more than a dozen young adult novels. Some of her well-known books include Under a War-Torn Sky (2001), Da Vinci’s Tiger (2015), and Louisa June and the Nazis in the Waves (2022).
About L. M. Elliot
L. M. Elliot was born in 1957 near Washington, D.C.. She studied at Wake Forest University. She also earned a master's degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Elliot has won many national literary awards for her books. For example, Under a War-Torn Sky, A Troubled Peace, Suspect Red, and Walls were all named Notable Books in Social Studies. These books were also recognized as Best Books by the Bank Street College of Education.
Her book Suspect Red won the 2018 Grateful American Book Prize. This story is set in the 1950s during the "Red Scare." This was a time when many people in America were very worried about communism. The book follows two teenage boys caught up in this fear.
Another book, Hamilton and Peggy! A Revolutionary Friendship, also received an Honorable Mention for the Grateful American Book Prize. This novel tells the story of Peggy Schuyler, the youngest of the famous Schuyler Sisters.
L. M. Elliot writes historical fiction novels. These stories often feature teenage main characters. They experience important life changes while living through significant historical events.
