LaBradford Smith's Basketball Journey

Early Life and College Basketball

LaBradford Smith grew up in Bay City, Texas. He went to Bay City High School where he became a talented basketball player. After high school, he played college basketball for the University of Louisville. He was a standout player there from 1987 to 1991.

Playing in the NBA

In 1991, LaBradford Smith was chosen by the Washington Bullets in the first round of the 1991 NBA draft. He was the 19th player picked overall. He played in the NBA for three seasons, from 1991 to 1994.

His best season in the NBA was during the 1992–93 season. While playing for the Bullets, he appeared in 69 games and scored an average of 9.3 points per game. During the 1993–94 season, he moved to play for the Sacramento Kings.

The Famous Michael Jordan Story

LaBradford Smith is often remembered for a game he played against Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. On March 19, 1993, Smith scored an amazing 37 points against the Bulls. He made 15 out of 20 shots from the field and all 7 of his free throws. Even with his great performance, the Bullets lost the game 104-99.

After this game, a story spread that Smith had told Michael Jordan, "Nice game, Mike." This supposedly made Jordan very determined to play even better in their next game. The very next day, the teams played again in Washington D.C. Jordan went on to score 36 points in just the first half of that game!

It was later revealed that Smith never actually said "Nice game, Mike." Michael Jordan had made up the story to motivate himself to perform at his best. It shows how much Jordan wanted to win and how he used anything to push himself.

Playing After the NBA

After his time in the NBA, LaBradford Smith continued his basketball career. He played in the CBA, which was another professional league in the United States. He also played basketball overseas in Europe. He played for teams in countries like Spain and Poland before ending his professional career in 2000.
