LaTasha Jenkins is an American athlete who used to be a very fast runner, known as a sprinter. She was born in Chicago on December 19, 1977. LaTasha won many important medals in races like the 200 m. She is famous for her speed and for being part of a team that set a world record in a relay race.

Early Life and College
LaTasha Jenkins grew up in Chicago. She went to Oak Lawn Polaris High School. Later, she attended Ball State University. While at Ball State, she was an amazing track and field athlete. In 1999, she won the NCAA 200-meter championship. This was the first national title ever for the Ball State women's track and field team. She earned her degree in English from Ball State.
International Competitions
LaTasha Jenkins became a top runner in the United States. In 1999, she finished second in the U.S. Championships 200-meter race. She was ready to compete on the world stage. However, she had to withdraw from some big events that year because she became ill.
She recovered and had a fantastic year in 2001. She won her first U.S. indoor title in the 200 meters. She also won a silver medal at the World Indoor Championships that year. Later in 2001, she earned another silver medal at the World Outdoor Championships.
World Record Holder
LaTasha Jenkins is a world record holder! She was part of the American 4 × 200 m relay team. A relay race is where a team of runners passes a baton. On April 29, 2000, her team ran the 4 × 200 m relay in a super fast time of 1 minute, 27.46 seconds. This happened in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her teammates were LaTasha Colander-Richardson, Nanceen Perry, and Marion Jones. It's important to know that the 4 × 200 m relay is not usually part of major international championships.
Hall of Fame
In February 2009, LaTasha Jenkins was honored for her amazing sports career. She was inducted into the Ball State University Sports Hall of Fame. This means her achievements are remembered and celebrated at her old university.
