Where is La Blanqueada Located?
La Blanqueada is surrounded by other interesting neighborhoods. To its west, you'll find Tres Cruces. To the northwest, it borders Larrañaga. On the northeast side, it touches Unión. Finally, to the south, it is next to Parque Batlle.
This neighborhood is home to the important Military Hospital. Many main roads pass through or around La Blanqueada. These include 8 de Octubre Avenue, Italia Avenue, Dr. Luis Alberto de Herrera Avenue, and Centenario Avenue.
Why is it Called La Blanqueada?
The name "La Blanqueada" comes from the Spanish word blanco, which means "white." A historian named Orestes Araújo shared the story behind the name. He said it was named after an old grocery store. This store was completely painted in white!
