La Coronilla is a small village in the Rocha Department of southeastern Uruguay. It is known for its beautiful Atlantic coast.
Where is La Coronilla?
This village is located right on the Atlantic coast. It sits along Route 9, a main road in Uruguay. La Coronilla is about 23 kilometers (14 miles) south of Chuy. Chuy is a city right on the border with Brazil.
Next to La Coronilla, you'll find two other small communities. To the west is a hamlet called Capacho. A hamlet is a very small settlement, even smaller than a village. To the north is a neighborhood called Barrio Pereira. In 2011, these three places together had a total of 1,153 people living there.
A Look at History
La Coronilla wasn't always called that. Before 1951, this area was known as "Las Maravillas." On November 13, 1951, a special law (Ley Nº 11.763) was passed. This law officially changed the name to "La Coronilla." It also gave it the status of a "Pueblo," which means village.

In 2011, the village of La Coronilla had a population of 510 people. The number of people living in La Coronilla has changed over the years.
