La Cumbrecita is a charming little village, or hamlet, located high up in the mountains of Córdoba, Argentina. It sits about 1,450 meters (4,757 feet) above sea level. This makes it a cool and refreshing place to visit!
You can find La Cumbrecita in the beautiful Calamuchita Valley, which is part of the Grand Sierras mountain range. A paved road, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) long, connects the village to the main road that leads to Córdoba, the capital city of the province.
A river called Medio flows along the edge of La Cumbrecita. This river also forms the border of the Santa María Department. In 2001, about 189 people lived in La Cumbrecita itself. If you include the nearby area of Calamuchita, the total population was around 345 people.

Exploring La Cumbrecita's Location
La Cumbrecita is situated about 40 kilometers (25 miles) west of another town called Villa General Belgrano. It's also about 118 kilometers (73 miles) away from the main capital city of Córdoba. Many people take trips to La Cumbrecita from Villa General Belgrano. This nearby town was actually started by the crew of a German ship called the Admiral Graf Spee.
How La Cumbrecita Was Founded
La Cumbrecita is set up like a commune, which means the people living there share common interests and goals. The village was officially founded on September 9, 1934. This happened when the Cabjolsky family bought a large piece of land, about 500 hectares (1,236 acres).
Two brothers, Enrique and Federico Behrend, were pioneers in the area. They helped start the village. The early residents worked hard to plant many pine trees. This transformed the natural landscape into a beautiful area that looks a lot like the Alpine regions of Europe. The local people also built the first houses and created the road that leads to Los Reartes.
Visiting La Cumbrecita: A Pedestrian Town
Tourism in La Cumbrecita began in 1937. By around 1940, the first private homes were built, showing that more people were coming to enjoy the area.
Unique Features for Visitors
Many of the people who settled in La Cumbrecita came from Central Europe. Because of this, the town has a unique feel and focuses on eco-tourism. This means it's all about enjoying nature and protecting the environment.
One of the most special things about La Cumbrecita is that it's designed completely for pedestrians. This means cars are not allowed inside the town! Visitors must park their cars in a special parking lot before they can walk into the village. This rule was put in place in 1996, when the town was declared a "Pedestrian Town" and a protected environment.
The town offers many places to stay, like hotels, lodges, and cabins. They are all decorated in a cozy, alpine style, making you feel like you're in a European mountain village. There's also a museum in La Cumbrecita. It's dedicated to showing off the different minerals that have been found in the area.
