La Graverie was a small town, also known as a commune, located in northwestern France. It was part of the Calvados department in the Normandy region. On January 1, 2016, La Graverie joined with other nearby towns. They formed a new, larger commune called Souleuvre-en-Bocage. This means La Graverie no longer exists as a separate commune. However, its history and people are now part of the bigger community.

Life in La Graverie

La Graverie was a rural area. It was known for its green landscapes and quiet way of life. The people who lived there were called Graveriens. Like many small French communes, it had its own local government. This government helped manage daily life for its residents.

Understanding Communes

In France, a commune is the smallest unit of local government. Think of it like a town or a small city. Each commune has a mayor and a town council. They make decisions for the people living there. Communes handle things like schools, roads, and local services.

Sometimes, smaller communes decide to merge. They do this to create a larger, stronger community. This can help them share resources and provide better services. La Graverie's merger into Souleuvre-en-Bocage is an example of this.

Population Changes Over Time

The number of people living in La Graverie changed a lot over the years. This is called its population. Tracking population helps us understand how a place grows or shrinks. For example, in 1793, about 883 people lived there. By 2019, the population had grown to 1,186. This shows that more people moved to La Graverie over time.
