La Hoya (Argentina) is a popular ski resort located in Chubut Province, Patagonia, in southern Argentina. It's a great place for winter sports!
This resort is special because of its "powder snow." This snow is very light and fluffy, perfect for skiing and snowboarding. The mountain faces south, so it doesn't get too much direct sunlight. This helps keep the snow in perfect condition for a long time.
The name "La Hoya" means "the hole" in Spanish. The skiing area looks like a big bowl or amphitheater. This shape helps protect the snow from the sun. Because of this, you can often ski here until October, when the weather is warmer. This means you can enjoy winter sports with lighter clothes! La Hoya has slopes for all skill levels, from beginners to expert skiers. It also has areas for ski touring (skiing in the backcountry) and a fun snowpark for tricks.

History of La Hoya Ski Resort
Early Days and Local Fun
Like many other ski centers, La Hoya started small. In the 1930s, it was just a snowy area near the town of Esquel. Local people would go there for fun and recreation. Back then, you had to travel to La Hoya by horse from Esquel!
The Army's Role and Club Andino Esquel
In the early 1940s, the Argentine Army's Mountain Regiment Nº40, based in Esquel, built some shelters. They also made paths for their military training. About ten years later, the Army stopped using the area. They gave their shelters to the Club Andino Esquel (CAE). This club was founded on November 1, 1952. This was a big step for winter sports in the region.
Building the Road and Developing the Resort
In the mid-1950s, work began on a car road from Esquel to the new ski center. Many groups worked together on this project. These included the highway department of Chubut, the town of Esquel, the chamber of commerce, and the Club Andino Esquel. Many local residents also helped out.
The road was finished after two years. After that, the Club Andino Esquel worked on making the ski trails better. The Government of the Province of Chubut also took charge of developing the resort. They worked through their Department of Tourism. Together, the CAE and the government planned the first ski lifts and other buildings. Their hard work helped La Hoya become the great ski resort it is today!
