La Iguala (Spanish pronunciation: [lajˈɣwala]) is a town and a municipality in the Lempira Department of Honduras. It is one of the oldest towns in this area. The main part of the town is called "La Iguala Centro".

Getting to La Iguala can be a bit tricky because of the roads. One way involves driving about 30 kilometers through mountains and small villages. After that, you take another 15-kilometer detour to "La Iguala Centro". This part of the road can be rough. Another way is shorter, about 30 minutes, but it's only good for vehicles with four-wheel drive.

History of La Iguala

La Iguala is a very old town. It was first settled by the Lenca Indians. The town officially became a municipality on May 1, 1556. It was first named "Santiago de La Iguala". Over time, people shortened the name to just "La Iguala". The town already existed when the Spanish founded the city of Gracias.

La Iguala is located between two rivers. These rivers join together right in the town. The town is also surrounded by many high and steep hills. You can find many beautiful pine forests in the area.
