La Mira is a cool mountain peak in central Spain. It's part of the Sierra de Gredos mountain range. This range is a smaller part of the bigger Sistema Central mountains.
La Mira stands tall in the region of Castile and León. It reaches a height of about 2,343 meters (that's about 7,687 feet!). This mountain is special because it marks where four towns meet: Arenas de San Pedro, Guisando, El Hornillo, and Hoyos del Espino.
How Tall is La Mira?
La Mira is quite high, especially when you look at it from the south side. The land drops down to the Tiétar Valley, which is only about 400 meters (1,312 feet) high. This makes La Mira look very impressive!
The mountain's "prominence" is 348 meters (1,142 feet). Prominence means how much a mountain sticks up from the land around it. La Mira is connected to Pico Almanzor, which is the highest mountain in the whole Sistema Central range at 2,591 meters (8,501 feet).
Climbing La Mira
Good news for hikers: climbing La Mira is pretty easy! You can reach the top from both the north and south sides.
If you start from the north, your adventure begins at Plataforma de Gredos. This spot is already quite high up, at about 1,800 meters (5,906 feet). If you prefer the south side, you can start your climb from Nogal del Barranco, which is at 1,159 meters (3,802 feet).
Nearby Wonders: Los Galayos
Close to La Mira, you'll find an amazing rock formation called Los Galayos. It's separated from La Mira by a very deep gorge called Garganta de los Galayos.
Los Galayos is a chain of tall, narrow peaks that look like giant stone columns. They rise up to about 2,200 meters (7,218 feet) and are a popular spot for rock climbers.
