Discovering La Nucia's Past
How La Nucia Got Its Name
The name La Nucia comes from an old Arabic word, Naziha. This word means "delicious" or "pleasant." It was given to the area by King James I of Aragon a long time ago.
Becoming an Independent Town
In the early 1600s, La Nucia was part of a larger area called the barony of Benidorm. It was owned by a powerful family. However, in 1705, La Nucia became its own independent municipality. This meant it could govern itself, separate from the barony of Polop. The town's main church, dedicated to La Immaculada Concepció (Immaculate Conception), was built in the 18th century.
Sports in La Nucia
La Nucia is home to a local football team called CF La Nucía. They play their matches at the Estadi Olímpic Camilo Cano, a sports stadium located right here in the municipality.
