La Rosita was first counted as a census-designated place in the year 2000. Before the 2010 census, many new CDPs were created from its land. These new places include Anacua, Campo Verde, El Cenizo, Hilltop, La Chuparosa, Los Barreras, Los Ebanos, Miguel Barrera, Rancho Viejo, and Tierra Dorada. This is why La Rosita's population dropped so much.
