Becoming a Municipality
For a long time, starting in 1787, La Serra d'Almos was its own independent town, also known as a municipality. This meant it had its own local government and made its own decisions.
Changes After the Civil War
However, things changed in 1940. This was just one year after the Spanish Civil War ended. At that time, La Serra d'Almos became part of the larger Tivissa municipality. Even though it was no longer fully independent, it remained a distinct community.
A New Status: EMD
More recently, in 2009, La Serra d'Almos gained a new special status. It became a Decentralized Municipal Entity (EMD). This means it still depends on Tivissa, which is about 7 kilometers away, but it has more control over its local affairs. It's like having a bit more independence while still being connected to a bigger town.
