La Unión is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Lempira department of Honduras. It's known for its beautiful green mountains. Getting to La Unión can be a bit of an adventure because it's in a somewhat remote area. You can travel there from Gracias city or from the Santa Bárbara department.

A Look Back: La Unión's History
Long ago, La Unión was just a small village named "Pueblo Nuevo." It was part of a larger area called "El Conal," which is now the town of San Rafael. La Unión officially became its own municipality on May 3, 1916. This means it became an independent town with its own local government.

The town has an English-Spanish school called Abundant Life Christian School. There are also public elementary schools. Electricity and mobile phone services became available in the area around 2006. According to the 2013 Honduras census, La Unión municipality had a population of 12,526 people. Most of them, about 98.46%, were Mestizo (a mix of European and Indigenous heritage). About 0.85% were Indigenous, 0.46% were White, and 0.19% were Black or Afro-Honduran. A very small number, 0.03%, belonged to other groups.
