La Villuerca, also called Risco de la Villuerca, Pico la Villuerca, or Pico de las Villuercas, is a tall mountain peak in Spain. It is the highest point in the Sierra de Villuercas mountain range. This range is also known as Sierra de Guadalupe. La Villuerca is also the highest mountain in the larger Montes de Toledo system. You can find it about 6 kilometers west of Guadalupe town. It is located in the Las Villuercas area, in Cáceres Province, Extremadura, Spain.
About La Villuerca Mountain
La Villuerca stands 1,603 meters (about 5,259 feet) above sea level. It is a very noticeable mountain. You can see it from far away in the surrounding area. This mountain has an old name. People have known its name since the year 1353. The mountain also gives its name to the Las Villuercas comarca, which is a type of region.
What You Can Find on the Peak
There is a narrow paved road that goes up to the top of La Villuerca. At the very top, you will find some old buildings. These were once part of a military base. It was called Base Centro Táctico, CT2, Guadalupe-Villuercas. Today, these buildings are empty and not used anymore. You can also see tall antennas there. There is even a heliport, which is a place for helicopters to land. In the winter, the top of La Villuerca often gets covered with snow.
