Lac Philippe is a beautiful lake found in the northern part of Gatineau Park. It's one of many freshwater lakes in the park that flow into the Gatineau River. Lac Philippe is one of the biggest lakes in the northern part of the park, along with lac La Pêche (also known as Fishing Lake) and lac des Loups (Lake of the Wolves). You can reach Lac Philippe in about 45 minutes by car from Ottawa.

What to Do at Lac Philippe

You can go swimming at the beach, and there are even lifeguards to keep you safe! There are also campsites right by the lake if you want to stay overnight. You can rent fun boats like paddle-boats, kayaks, and canoes to explore the water. Just remember, there's a small fee to drive into the park during camping season. It's a great spot for families, with nice picnic areas and clear, clean water.

Keeping Lac Philippe Healthy

It's important to keep Lac Philippe clean and healthy, but sometimes people leave trash behind. In 2017, the water quality wasn't as good as in other years. This shows how important it is to protect the lake. When you walk around the lake, you might sometimes see things like plastic items or empty cans left near the water. To help the lake stay healthy, everyone should remember to take their trash with them. We should also be careful not to let things like food scraps or other items get into the water.

Animals and Nature

In the autumn, Lac Philippe is surrounded by amazing colours as the tree leaves change. It's a wonderful place for many kinds of birds to find food. One special bird you might see is the Common Loon (Gavia immer).
