An oxbow lake is a U-shaped lake that forms when a wide meander of a river is cut off. This one is part of the Mississippi River system.
What's in a Name?
The community of LaCour gets its name from the LaCour family. This family owned a large estate and farm land in the area. They ran a big farm, known as a plantation, starting in the 1700s and continuing into the early 1800s. During this time, people who were enslaved lived and worked on this land.
