Who Was Ladislav Novák?
Ladislav Novák was a true legend in Czechoslovakian football. He spent most of his playing career with Dukla Prague, a very successful club. With Dukla Prague, he helped his team win an amazing eight championship titles! This means they were the best team in their league eight times.
Playing for His Country
Novák was a key player for the Czechoslovakian national team. He played in 75 matches for his country. What's even more impressive is that he was the team captain in 71 of those games! Being a captain means he was a leader on the field.
He took part in three different FIFA World Cup tournaments. These are huge international competitions where countries play against each other.
- He played in the 1954 FIFA World Cup.
- He also played in the 1958 FIFA World Cup.
- His biggest success came in the 1962 FIFA World Cup in Chile. Here, Czechoslovakia reached the final and won the silver medal, finishing as runner-up! This was a huge achievement for his team.
Coaching Days
After he stopped playing football, Ladislav Novák became a football manager. He coached his old club, Dukla Prague, where he had so much success as a player. As a coach, he led Dukla Prague to another championship title in 1982. He also briefly coached the Czechoslovakian national team.
