Exploring Ladrillar's Hamlets
Ladrillar is not just one town. It includes several smaller villages or hamlets. These are called alquerías in Spanish.
What are Alquerías?
An alquería is like a tiny village or a group of houses. They are usually found in rural areas. Ladrillar's alquerías are:
- Cabezo (also known as Cabezu)
- Las Mestas: This hamlet is in the lower part of the Las Batuecas Valley. It sits where the Batuecas River and the Ladrillar River meet. Even though it's part of Ladrillar, it feels more like the Las Batuecas region.
- Riomalo de Arriba (also known as Riomalu d’Arriba)
A Look at Ladrillar's Past
Ladrillar has an interesting history. Old papers show that its name used to be "El Adrial".
How Ladrillar Grew
Long ago, the main part of the town was in the Cabezo alquería. Ladrillar was also part of the Nuñomoral area back then.
Nicknames for Locals
People from Ladrillar have a fun nickname. Locals from nearby villages call them "Veleguines". This nickname means they are seen as nervous or restless people.
