Laeticia Amihere (born July 10, 2001) is a Canadian professional basketball player. She plays for the Golden State Valkyries in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Before joining the WNBA, she played college basketball for the South Carolina Gamecocks. She was chosen eighth overall in the 2023 WNBA draft by the Atlanta Dream.

Early Life and Basketball Start

Laeticia Amihere was born in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Her father is from Ghana, and her mother is from Ivory Coast. She went to King's Christian Collegiate in Oakville, Ontario. When she was just 15 years old, Laeticia made history. She became the first Canadian female to dunk a basketball in a game!

College Basketball Journey

Laeticia started playing for the South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball team in the 2019–20 college season. She quickly showed her skills on the court.

In March 2021, she had an amazing game against Texas. She scored 10 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and blocked nine shots. Those nine blocks set a new record for her team in an NCAA Tournament game.

In November 2021, Laeticia scored her highest college points in one game, with 18 points against Oregon. She also helped her team win the NCAA championship in the 2021–22 season. Her final college season was in 2022–23.

Professional Basketball Career

After her successful college career, Laeticia moved on to play professional basketball.

Playing in the WNBA

Atlanta Dream Team

The Atlanta Dream picked Laeticia Amihere as the eighth player in the first round of the 2023 WNBA draft. She played her first WNBA game on May 30, 2023, against the Chicago Sky. In her first season, she played in 21 games. She averaged about 2.7 points and 1.0 rebounds per game.

In the 2024 season, Laeticia played 16 games for the Dream. She averaged 1.2 points and 1.7 rebounds. The Dream team decided to waive her (release her from the team) on February 1, 2025.

Golden State Valkyries Team

Just a few days later, on February 6, 2025, the Golden State Valkyries picked up Laeticia. This meant she joined their team. However, she was waived again by the Valkyries on May 14. But she was signed back by the Valkyries on June 8, 2025, when a spot opened up on their team.

Playing Overseas

Perth Lynx Team

Besides playing in the WNBA, Laeticia also plays basketball in other countries. On September 18, 2024, she signed with the Perth Lynx team in Australia. She played for them during the 2024–25 season in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL).

Playing for Team Canada

Laeticia Amihere has proudly represented her home country, Canada, in many international basketball competitions.

Junior National Team

As a younger player, she helped the Canadian junior team win a gold medal at the 2015 FIBA Americas Under-16 Championship for Women. Later, she won a bronze medal at the 2017 FIBA Under-19 Women's Basketball World Cup.

Senior National Team

Laeticia has also played for Canada's senior national team.

  • In June 2021, she was part of Team Canada for the 2021 FIBA Women's AmeriCup.
  • In July 2021, she was chosen to be on Canada's team for the 2020 Summer Olympics.
  • In September 2022, she played for Team Canada in the 2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.
  • She also competed for Canada at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Laeticia Amihere has achieved some great things in her basketball career. She is an NCAA champion from 2022. She was also named to the All-WNBL First Team in 2025 while playing overseas.
