Journey of the Lahn River
The Lahn River begins its journey in the Rothaargebirge mountains. This is a mountain range located in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The river's source is near a place called Lahnhof. Here, the elevation is about 602 meters (1,975 feet) above sea level.
Where the Lahn Ends
The Lahn flows all the way to Lahnstein, a town near Koblenz. Here, it joins the mighty Rhine River. The point where the Lahn meets the Rhine is much lower, at an elevation of about 61 meters (200 feet). This means the river drops quite a bit in height during its long journey.
Cities Along the Lahn
As the Lahn flows, it passes through several important towns and cities. These include:
These cities have grown up around the river, using its water and enjoying its scenic beauty. You can often see swans swimming peacefully on the Lahn, especially between Gießen and Wetzlar.
Fun Activities Along the River
The Lahn River is not just for water. It's also a great place for outdoor activities. There is a popular cycling route called the 'Lahntalradweg'. This bike path follows the river, offering beautiful views. You can see signs for this path in places like Marburg, guiding cyclists along the river's banks.
