Laila Havilio (born 1960) is a talented sculptor from Santiago, Chile. She creates amazing art using different materials like wood, stone, bronze, cement, and ceramic.
Laila was born in Recoleta, Chile, in April 1960. When she was 10, her family moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina. From 1980 to 1983, she studied ceramics with a sculptor named Ingeborg Ringer.
In 1993, Laila moved to Paris, France. There, she continued her art education. She learned about high-temperature ceramics from sculptor Vivianne Cheveron.
Two years later, in 1995, Laila returned to Chile. She attended the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. This is where she learned to work with new materials like wood and stone. At the same time, she trained at "La Obra." This was a famous place where metal sculptures were made. She learned a special method called Lost-wax casting. This allowed her to create beautiful sculptures from bronze and other metals.
In 2001, Laila Havilio showed her art at the Galeria de arte San Francisco in Chile. This exhibition helped her become well-known. In 2003, a big organization called the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) chose her. They picked her to represent Chile in their art collection in Washington D.C. Other sculptures by Laila were also shown at the Embassy of Chile in Washington, D.C.. Since then, her work has often been featured in Chilean newspapers, on TV, and on the radio.
