Lake Agnes is a beautiful lake located high up in the mountains of Colorado, USA. It is found within the State Forest State Park and is part of the amazing Never Summer Mountains. This special lake is known for being the deepest lake in the entire State Forest State Park!
Discovering Lake Agnes
Lake Agnes is an alpine lake, which means it's a lake found at a very high elevation in the mountains. It sits in a bowl-shaped hollow called a tarn. This tarn was carved out by a glacier long ago.
Surrounded by Peaks
The lake is surrounded by a natural amphitheater of mountains called a cirque. This cirque includes several impressive peaks:
- Nokhu Crags
- Static Peak
- Mount Richthofen
- Mount Mahler
- Braddock Peak
These tall mountains create a stunning backdrop for the clear waters of Lake Agnes.
How Lake Agnes Got its Name
Lake Agnes is named after Agnes Zimmerman. She was the daughter of John Zimmerman, who was an early settler in the area. John Zimmerman also owned the Keystone Hotel in a nearby place called Home, Colorado.
