Lake Anza is a fun place to swim in Tilden Regional Park. This park is located in the Berkeley Hills near Berkeley, California. Lake Anza is actually a reservoir, which is a lake made by people to store water.

The lake was created in 1938 when the C L Tilden Park Dam was built. It was named after a Spanish explorer named Juan Bautista de Anza.

You can go swimming at Lake Anza from May to September. During these months, you need to pay a small fee to enter. There are also lifeguards on duty to keep everyone safe. A snack bar is open if you get hungry! The swimming area is next to a sandy and grassy beach that is about 70 yards (64 m) long. There's even a special area for adults to swim, which is about 44 yards (40 m) long.

Around the lake, you'll find useful things like changing rooms and bathrooms. There are also big parking areas. Some parts of the lake are special areas for birds that live in the water. Other areas are set aside for dogs.

History of Lake Anza

Lake Anza was built in 1938. It was funded by a government program called the Public Works Administration (PWA). The main idea was to create a fun lake for people to enjoy. It also helped provide water for the Tilden Park golf course back then. Even though the golf course doesn't use water from Lake Anza anymore, you can still see parts of the old water system.

The beach and the stone bath house were built by another government program called the Works Progress Administration (WPA). The first stone bath house burned down in the 1960s. A new building was put in its place, which is the one you see today.
