Lake Atoka Reservoir, often called Atoka Lake, is a large man-made lake in southeastern Oklahoma. It's about 4 miles (6.4 km) north of the town of Atoka, Oklahoma. This lake was created in 1959. Its main job is to provide fresh water supply for people living in Oklahoma City and also for the town of Atoka.

About Lake Atoka Reservoir

Lake Atoka is a big lake with lots of water. It covers an area of about 5,700 acres (23 square kilometers). The lake is quite deep, with an average depth of 26 feet (7.9 meters).

Size and Shoreline

The lake has a long shoreline, stretching for about 70 miles (110 km). If you were to walk along its edge, it would be a very long journey! The lake itself is about 15 miles (24 km) long. It holds a huge amount of water, about 105,195 acre-feet (130 million cubic meters).

Sharing Water Resources

Lake Atoka is an important source of water. Because water is so important, different groups sometimes need to agree on how to share it fairly. This lake, along with others like Sardis Lake, has been part of discussions about water rights.

Agreements and Discussions

Since 2011, there have been talks and legal cases about how water from these lakes should be used. These discussions involve the state of Oklahoma and some Native American tribes. The goal is to make sure everyone has access to the water they need. These talks help decide how much water cities like Oklahoma City can use.
