Lake Calabay is a special freshwater lake located in Hunter's Creek, Florida. It's not a natural lake; it was actually built by people! This lake is found right at the southern edge of Orange County, Florida. It's a key part of the Hunter's Creek community.

Building Lake Calabay: A New Community Feature

Before Lake Calabay was created, this area was mostly a swamp. But around 1993, work began to transform it. The lake was designed to be a beautiful feature for the new Hunter's Creek development.

Homes Around the Lake

Three different neighborhoods were built right around Lake Calabay. These neighborhoods are gated, meaning they have controlled access.

  • Calabay Cove: This area is to the east and north of the lake. It has 104 homes that were built between 1993 and 1998.
  • Montara: On the west side of the lake, you'll find Montara. This neighborhood has 24 homes, constructed from 1994 to 1996.
  • Ashton: To the south of the lake is Ashton. This area includes 34 homes, which were built between 1996 and 1997.

Lake Design and Location

Lake Calabay has an interesting, uneven shape. It was designed this way on purpose. This allows as many homes as possible to have a view or direct access to the lake.

Lake Borders and Nearby Roads

In a few spots on its south and west sides, the lake touches Hunter's Creek Boulevard. This road acts like a small dam. It helps separate Lake Calabay from two other bodies of water nearby.

Rules for Lake Calabay

Lake Calabay is a private lake. This means it's mainly for the residents of Hunter's Creek.

Access and Activities

You won't find any public swimming areas or boat ramps here. Swimming and boating are not allowed on Lake Calabay. While the public can reach the lake's edge at three points along Hunter's Creek Boulevard, direct access for activities is restricted.

Calabay Park

There's also Calabay Park, located on the east side of the Ashton neighborhood. This park borders the lake. However, it is also meant for the use of Hunter's Creek residents, not the general public.
