Lake Carmel is a community located in the town of Kent in Putnam County, New York, United States. It is home to more than half of Kent's total population. The community is named after and built around Lake Carmel, which is a man-made lake about 1.6 miles long. This lake is in the southeastern part of the township, just north of the community of Carmel.

The lake and the area around it were created by the Smadbeck brothers in the 1920s. They dug out and built a dam in a swampy area to form the lake. Then, they sold pieces of land to people, advertising in a newspaper called the New York Daily Mirror. Lake Carmel is also where the volunteer Lake Carmel Fire Department is located. This fire department helps protect the eastern part of the township. The town government of Kent also has its offices here.
