Lake Dorothy is a beautiful lake located in King County, Washington. It is one of the biggest lakes in its area. This lake is also the starting point for the East Fork Miller River. Just a short distance downstream from the lake's outlet, you can find the lovely Florence Falls.
The lake was first shown on a map called "New Map of the County of King, State of Washington, 1894." The mapmaker, Oliver Phelps Anderson, named the lake after his daughter, Dorothy Louise Anderson (1893-1912). She was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority.
Visiting Lake Dorothy
You can reach Lake Dorothy by hiking the Dorothy Lake Trail. This trail is about 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) long to get to the lake itself.
Exploring the Trail
The trail continues for another 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) along the lake's edge. It takes you all the way to the south end of the lake. After that, the trail starts to climb up away from the lake. It goes over a ridge before heading down to Bear Lake and the Taylor River. This makes it a great spot for a longer hiking adventure!
