Lake Garda is the biggest lake in Italy. In Italian, people call it Lago di Garda. It's a super popular spot for holidays!

This beautiful lake is in northern Italy. You can find it between the famous cities of Venice and Milan. It stretches across three different regions: Veneto, Lombardy, and Trentino.

Lake Garda is quite long, about 51.6 kilometers (32 miles). It is also 17.2 kilometers (10.7 miles) wide at its widest point. The lake covers a large area of 369.98 square kilometers (142.85 square miles).

What Makes Lake Garda Special?

Lake Garda is known for its amazing scenery. The northern part is narrow and surrounded by tall mountains. The southern part is wider and has gentle hills. These hills were formed by glaciers a long time ago.

A Mild Climate for Fun

The lake has a special climate that is usually mild. This means it's not too hot in summer and not too cold in winter. This weather is perfect for growing olive trees and lemon trees. It also makes the area great for holidays all year round.

How the Lake Was Formed

Lake Garda was carved out by a huge glacier during the Ice Age. This glacier moved down from the Alps. It dug out the deep basin where the lake now sits. As the glacier melted, it left behind the water that filled the lake. It also left the rolling hills you see in the south.
