Lake Hart is a small community in Indiana, located in Monroe Township, Morgan County. It's known as an unincorporated town. This means it doesn't have its own official city government. In the year 1990, about 213 people lived there.
A Look Back: Lake Hart's Story
Lake Hart used to be an incorporated town in the 1970s. This means it had its own official town government, like many cities and towns do. Back then, about 231 people lived in the town.
However, on September 23, 1998, Lake Hart was disincorporated. This means it stopped being an official town with its own government.
Even though it's not an official town anymore, a special group called a Conservancy District was created for the area. This happened on September 13, 1985. It's like a local government group that helps manage certain things for the community. The name of this district, and the community, is now Hart Lake. The original town was called Lake Hart.
On January 16, 1987, the purpose of the Hart Lake Conservancy District was updated. Its main jobs became making sure the community had good water and sewage services. A Conservancy District is a real government group. It has a board of directors chosen by the people, it can collect taxes, and it follows Indiana's laws for government groups. It also gets checked by the State Board of Accounts.
