Club History and Beginnings
The Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club was started in 1905. The main clubhouse building, which you can see today, was built a few years later in 1910. To celebrate the club's 100th birthday in 2004, a book was written about its history. It was called A Century of Summers: The Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club's First Hundred Years. This book was a team effort between the Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum and the club itself.

The clubhouse was built in a special style called Adirondack Architecture. This style often uses natural materials like local logs. The outside of the building is white. Inside, the "great hall" shows off the Adirondack style with dark wooden details. It is decorated with a nautical theme, and pictures of all the past club leaders (called commodores) hang on the walls. There is also a large porch where people can eat and gather. This porch offers great views of the lake.
The clubhouse building is very important. It is listed on both the National Register of Historic Places and the New Jersey Register of Historic Places. A special group, the LHYC Historical Foundation, helps take care of and restore this historic building.
Sailing and Racing Programs
The club has a very active sailing program. This includes a junior sailing program where young people can learn to sail and race. The club also hosts one-design racing events. In these races, all the boats are the same type, which makes the competition fair. Some of the boat types that race here include the E-Scow, Star, Thistle, and A-Class.
The club has a youth program called "The Juniors." This program offers many activities for young members. The club also provides sailing lessons that are open to people who are not members.
Fun Social Events
The Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club hosts many social events. Throughout the spring and summer, there are often fun gatherings on Saturday nights. The club also hosts the yearly boat show for the Lake Hopatcong Antique and Classic Boat Society. This popular event has been happening for over 30 years, bringing together many beautiful old boats.
