Lake Idylwild is a beautiful, round freshwater lake located in Winter Haven, Florida. It covers an area of about 95 acres. That's like having 72 football fields all put together! The lake has one small island, which is almost rectangular. It measures about 50 feet by 45 feet.
Lake Idylwild is part of the amazing Winter Haven Chain of Lakes system. This means you can travel by boat from Lake Idylwild to many other lakes nearby.
About Lake Idylwild
Lake Idylwild is found on the northwest side of Winter Haven. If you look at its shores, you'll see different things. Homes are built along the northeast and western sides. On the south side, there are various shops and businesses. A woody area borders the southeast shore, and a grassy area is along the northwest shore.
Exploring the Lake
You can't directly access Lake Idylwild from public land. There are no public boat ramps or swimming spots right on its shores. However, boats can still get into the lake using three canals.
One canal on the northwest side connects Lake Idylwild to Lake Jessie. Another canal on the east side leads to Lake Hartridge. The third canal, located on the south, connects to Lake Cannon. Because it's part of the Chain of Lakes, boats can travel quite a distance to reach Lake Idylwild.
Fish and Wildlife
If you enjoy fishing, Lake Idylwild is home to several types of fish. The Take Me Fishing website says you can find largemouth bass here. You might also catch black crappie and bluegill. It's a great spot for a fishing adventure!
A Look Back in Time
Long ago, in the 1940s, there was a special attraction on the shores of Lake Idylwild. It was called "Idylwyld Gardens." People loved to visit this beautiful spot. Today, Idylwyld Gardens is known as a "lost park." This means it was once a popular place that no longer exists. Old postcards from that time show how lovely Idylwyld Gardens used to be.
