Lake Cannon is a nearly round freshwater lake in Winter Haven, Florida. It covers about 333 acres (135 hectares). The lake is surrounded by homes, but it also has some open land and a Boys Club on its northeast side. Lake Cannon is close to other lakes, like Lake Mirror and Lake Howard.
Lake Cannon's History
This lake was first mapped by Dr. John Westcott for the United States government. Dr. Westcott was a very religious man. He originally named the lake "Lake Canon." However, the United States Army later changed its name to Lake Cannon. This change happened during the Seminole Wars.
Visiting Lake Cannon
There are no public swimming areas on Lake Cannon. Also, you won't find public boat ramps directly on its shores. However, there is a nice public park on the northeast side of the lake. This park is called Lake Cannon Public Park. It has picnic tables where you can eat. There is also a fishing dock for those who want to fish.
Boat Access to the Lake
You can reach Lake Cannon by boat using several canals. One canal connects it to Mirror Lake. Another canal links it to Howard Lake. A third canal goes north to Lake Idylwild. A fourth canal connects it to Lake Blue in the west. Lake Cannon is part of the south system of the Winter Haven Chain of Lakes. This means boats can get to it from many public boat ramps in the entire lake system.
Fish You Might Find
The Take Me Fishing website says that Lake Cannon is home to several types of fish. You might find largemouth bass swimming in its waters. Bluegill are also common here. Another fish you could catch is the black crappie.
