How Lake Jacomo Was Created

The idea for Lake Jacomo started way back in 1932. A judge named Harry S. Truman, who later became a U.S. President, asked for a study. He wanted to see if a park could be built in the area.

Nothing happened right away, but 20 years later, local people voted. They approved a plan to create and build the lake. Lake Jacomo officially opened its doors for everyone to enjoy on May 30, 1959.

What Does "Jacomo" Mean?

The name of the lake is actually a clever shortcut! "Jacomo" comes from "Jackson County, MO." It's an acronym, which means it's made from the first letters of words.
