Geography of Lake Mohawk
The Lake Mohawk community is located on both sides of Lake Mohawk. This lake is a small reservoir, which is a man-made lake used to store water. It's on a stream called Middle Creek. Middle Creek flows into Sandy Creek, which then joins the Tuscarawas River. Finally, the Tuscarawas River flows into the Ohio River.
Most of the lake and the community are in Brown Township. However, the southern part of the lake extends into Harrison Township. The water from the lake flows out about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south of a village called Malvern.
The community was started in 1963 by a company called American Realty Service Corporation. They used about 1,728 acres (7.0 km²) of land. The lake area is part of a private, gated community. This community has around 1,700 privately owned lots.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the Lake Mohawk CDP covers a total area of about 4.47 square miles (11.6 km²). Out of this, about 3.67 square miles (9.5 km²) is land, and 0.81 square miles (2.1 km²) is water. This means about 18% of the area is water.
