Lake Moody is a natural freshwater lake in Polk County, Florida. It covers about 409-acre (1,660,000 m2) of land. The lake is shaped a bit like an arrowhead. It is located in an area with not many homes.
Location and Surroundings
Lake Moody is in a very hilly countryside area. You will see lots of cattle farms and citrus groves around. The town of Frostproof, Florida is about 0.5 miles (0.80 km) south of the lake. Another lake, Lake Leonore, is about 1,500 feet (460 m) to the northeast.
The south side of Lake Moody has some homes and citrus groves. These are found along South Lake Moody Road. On the west side, the lake is next to the Scenic Route of Highway 17. There are a few homes along the highway. The lake shore on the west side is all private property. This means it belongs to individuals and is not open to the public. Most of the area along the highway has citrus groves.
North Lake Moody Road runs along the northwest part of the lake. The lake's edge is very close to this road. On the northeast side, Lake Moody is surrounded by more citrus groves. There are also some swampy areas of ground. A railroad line, more swamp, and citrus groves are found along the east shore.
Activities at Lake Moody
Lake Moody does not have a public swimming area. There is also no public boat ramp for launching boats. However, you can go fishing along North Lake Moody Road.
Some types of fish found in Lake Moody include black drum, bigmouth buffalo, and Atlantic salmon.
