Lake Revelstoke is a large, artificial lake in British Columbia, Canada. It's located on the Columbia River, north of the town of Revelstoke. This lake was created by building the Revelstoke Dam.

What is Lake Revelstoke?

Lake Revelstoke is a special type of lake called a reservoir. A reservoir is like a giant storage tank for water. It is made by building a dam across a river. The dam holds back the river's water, forming a lake behind it.

This lake was created when the Revelstoke Dam was built. The dam flooded a canyon along the Columbia River. It also covered some old areas where people used to dig for gold during the Big Bend Gold Rush.

Size and Location

Lake Revelstoke is quite long. It stretches about 130 km (81 mi) upstream from the Revelstoke Dam. The lake is located between the town of Revelstoke and Mica Creek.

The lake's water level can change. This is because much of the water flowing into Lake Revelstoke comes from another dam, the Mica Dam. The water released from Mica Dam is controlled, which makes Lake Revelstoke's level go up and down by about 4.5 m (15 ft) regularly.
