A Look Back: Park History

Lake Wyola State Park has an interesting past. It used to be a private park. In 1997, a group called the Department of Environmental Management (DEM) bought it. This group is now known as the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). They bought the park from Emelia Bennett.

The park was then named after Carroll Holmes. He was a local leader in Shutesbury. He also helped manage a part of the DEM.

Fun Things to Do at the Park

Lake Wyola State Park offers many exciting activities. The park covers about 40 acres. You can explore trails for walking, hiking, and even snowmobiling in winter. Cross-country skiing is also popular when there's snow.

The park has restrooms and picnic areas. There is also a beach where you can relax. Lake Wyola itself is much larger, covering about 128 acres. This big lake is perfect for swimming, fishing, and boating.
