Lakeshore, once known as Fedhaven, is a small place in Polk County, Florida, United States. It is an "unincorporated community." This means it's not an official city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's managed as part of the larger county.
Lakeshore is located in the eastern part of Polk County. It is about 1 mile (1.6 km) east of Nalcrest. It is also about 11 miles (17.7 km) east-southeast of Lake Wales.
What is Lakeshore?
Lakeshore is a quiet community in Florida. It was first created in the 1960s. At that time, it was designed to be a special place for people who used to work for the United States government to retire. Because of this, it was first called Fedhaven. The name "Fedhaven" came from "federal employees' haven."
How Lakeshore Got Its Name
Later, the land where Fedhaven was located was sold. It was bought by private owners, not the government. When this happened, the community's name was changed. It became Lakeshore, which describes its location near lakes.
Mail and Location
Lakeshore has its own post office. The special code for mail in Lakeshore is ZIP code 33854. Sometimes, people might also use Fedhaven or Lake Wales as part of the address for this area.
Facing the Storms
In 2004, Lakeshore experienced a difficult time. Three strong storms, part of the 2004 Atlantic hurricane season, hit the area. These hurricanes caused a lot of damage to the community.
